SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va., Oct. 21, 2024 — T. Dean Wright Jr., President and Directing Business Representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 54, issued the following statement regarding the ongoing strike by IAM Local 598 members at Dow Chemical in South Charleston:
“Approximately 77 members of IAM Local 598 who work at Dow Chemical in South Charleston made the difficult decision to strike after their previous contract expired on Oct. 20. They are demanding fair wages and the protection of key benefits, including holidays and vacation time.
“Our members at Dow Chemical perform dangerous, demanding work, and they deserve appropriate compensation and respect for their labor. They are simply asking for fair recognition of the value they bring to the company.
“We stand united with our members as they fight for a contract that reflects the true worth of their hard work and commitment.”
